Controlling blossom end rot with POLY4

Results of a field trial in Italy (2019)

Blossom end rot (BER) is a common but frustrating disorder that affects fruiting vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and even melons. It shows up as a dark, sunken spot at the bottom (blossom end) of the fruit. It is not caused by pests or disease, but by calcium deficiency in the plant.

Once it shows up, that fruit’s a write-off meaning all your hard work wasted on unmarketable yield. POLY4 can help fix the root cause and dramatically reduce blossom end rot incidents.

Tomato fruits affected by blossom end rot

POLY4 can cut blossom end rot dramatically — here’s the evidence.

In a 2019 field trial in Isernia, Italy, we enriched sulphate of potash (SOP) with POLY4 and compared it to a regular SOP practice in tomatoes. The two practices received equal amounts of N, P and K. The difference was the Mg and Ca nutrition with POLY4.

POLY4 inclusion resulted in a significant 85% reduction of BER incidence. That’s better crop quality and better margins.

All treatments received equal amounts of N and P. Treatments except control received equal amounts of K. In “SOP+POLY4” treatment 75% of K was delivered by SOP and 25% of K by POLY4. Letters on the columns indicate statistically significant differences (Fisher’s LSD test)
